4th International Seminar for newly elected church leaders
from November 18 - 27, 2018
Theme: "Sharing experiences of leadership"

From November 18 - 27, 2018, church leaders from the LWF member churches met for the fourth time. A total of 12 newly elected bishops and church presidents from Angola, Tanzania, India, Hungary, Poland, USA, Canada, Guyana, Chile and Mexico came first to Geneva and on November 23 to Wittenberg. In Geneva, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Patricia Cuyatti, they were introduced to the structures of the LWF, exchanged ideas and had contacts with international organizations in the city. In Wittenberg the intensive exchange continued under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Patricia Cuyatti, Pastor Inken Wöhlbrand, Director of the LWF Center, and Tutor of Studies Pastor Joachim Zirkler. The Lutheran city with its sights was visited. As guests Bishop Marianne Christiansen from Denmark and Bishop Tamas Fabiny from Hungary explained the opportunities and dangers of the leadership from their experience. A highlight was undoubtedly the tree planting in the Luthergarten.

 

3rd International Seminar for newly elected church leaders
from Sept. 07 - 16, 2017
Theme: "Exchange about leadership"

From September 7 – September 16, 2017, for the third time, church leaders from the LWF member churches met. A total of 13 newly elected bishops and church presidents from Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Jordan, Swaziland (South Africa), Mozambique, Eritrea, Botswana, Chile, Honduras, USA and Finland came first to Geneva and on September 13th to Wittenberg. In Geneva they were led by Pastor Dr. Patricia Cuyatti to get more familiar with the structures of the LWF, shared the respective experiences and had contact with international organizations. In Wittenberg, headed by Pastor Dr. Patricia Cuyatti and the Tutor of Studies Pastor Joachim Zirkler, the participants continued the intensive exchange and visited Lutherstadt with its sights. Bishop Dr. Christoph Meyns from Braunschweig visited the meeting, explained the history and structure of his regional church and thus ensured an intensification of the exchange. A highlight was the tree planting in the Luthergarten. Thus, the Indonesian Christian Lutheran Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eritrea and the Christian Lutheran Church of Honduras are now also represented in the Luthergarten.

 

2nd International Seminar for newly elected church leaders
from Sept. 10 - 18, 2016
Theme: "Sharing experiences of leadership"

There were 11 bishops and presidents from member churches of the following countries: Malaysia, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Liberia, Estonia, Peru, Argentina, Canada and USA. They were introduced to
the structures of the LWF under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Patricia Cuyatti, shared their experiences, and got contact with international organizations, for example the UNO. This year, the seminar took place only in Geneva as a "Retreat of Newly Elected Leaders" (RoNEL) because in Wittenberg there was no possibility for lodging in that time. The Tutor of Studies, Pastor Joachim Zirkler visited the participants in Geneva and introduced them to the program of the LWF Center. He pointed out the seminars for pastors and the new format of a seminar for Lay People in Leadership positions, which starts in January 2017. Thus, both laymen and pastors were addressed directly by the bishops and presidents and attended the respective seminars.

From 2017 onwards the seminars will take place again in Geneva and Wittenberg.

 

1st International Seminar for newly elected church leaders
from Sept. 27 – Oct. 10, 2015
Theme: “Chances and Temptations of Leadership”

It was attended by 13 bishops and presidents from member churches of the following countries: Senegal, Namibia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, India, the Philippines, Taiwan, Costa Rica, Suriname, Chile and Venezuela. From Sept. 27 – Oct. 2, the participants in Geneva got to know the structures of the LWF under the direction of Patricia Cuyatti and visited the UN.
The seminar in Wittenberg took place from Oct. 3 – Oct. 10,2015, under the theme "Chances and Temptations of Leadership ". Dr. Rudolf Ficker (Hannover) was the theological leader. An intensive fellowship was developed, and the participants agreed to a monthly intercession and mutual information among them. Through the relationship of trust, some participants arrange also to meet by Internet for consultation. The evaluation of the entire seminar, in Geneva and Wittenberg, gave the highest ratings of acceptance. The exchange and further theological education of people in leadership positions have been extremely strengthening and helpful.
