Pastors conference of the Diocese of Haderslev, Denmark

For the participants, the meeting was a good opportunity to get to know each other better, as they are all new to the Haderslev church district. Together with Bishop Marianne Christiansen and Dompastor Christa Hansen, ten pastors came to Wittenberg. The lecture by Professor Dr. Volker Gummelt from Greifswald about Johannes Bugenhagen met with lively interest. The former director of the VELKD (United Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Germany) in Hanover, Dr. Friedrich Hauschildt, gave a lecture in Danish on the topic "General priesthood and ordained ministry at Luther in its meaning". The lecture by Kathrin Oxen, Director of the Centre for Preaching Culture, on the topic "African American Preaching as an Impulse for European Preaching Culture? Opportunities and Limits" initiated an intensive discussion. The parish visit to Gentha village, whose inhabitants have had a special connection with Denmark since the meeting in 2015, was again a highlight. After the devotion in the church there was a get-together in the house of the fire-brigade with snacks and music. For the theological training of as well as the sense of community among the pastors, these days were of great importance in every respect.

Bishop Marianne Christiansen came back to Wittenberg with her pastors who have not been working for a long time in her district and with the pastor of the cathedral, Christa Hansen for their annual conference. For the participants, this was a good opportunity for a better acquaintance. The lecture by Professor Dr. Volker Gummelt from Greifswald about Johannes Bugenhagen found much interest. The former president of the VELKD office in Hanover, Dr. Friedrich Hauschildt, gave a lecture on "Sola Scriptura - Luther's Correspondence" in Danish Language. Intensive discussions were held on the subject of "Preaching with the Reformers" and the presentation of a sermon on the subject by the head of the Center for Protestant Preaching Culture, Kathrin Oxen. The visit in the village of Gentha, whose inhabitants have been connected in a special way to Denmark since the first meeting in 2015, was again a highlight. After the devotion in the church there was a gathering in the fire station with drinks, snacks and music. For the convent community and the theological education of pastors, these days were profitable in every respect.

Theme: “Johnnes Bugenhagen and the Danish Church”

Bishop Marianne Christiansen came back to Wittenberg for the annual convent with pastors, who have not worked for a long time in their district. For the participants, this was a good opportunity for a better get to know each other. The lecture by Professor Dr. Volker Gummelt from Greifswald about Johannes Bugenhagen naturally attracted much interest. The former head of the office of the VELKD in Hanover, Dr. Friedrich Hauschildt, presented his insights into basic principles of a Lutheran ethics in Danish language. Sebastian Bente, member of the Association r2017 e. V., it is preparing the Reformation Jubilee gave a short overview about the preparations and Pastor Joachim Zirkler lectured about the church in the former GDR and in Central Germany today. The Melanchthonhaus and the church - shop "Denkbar", run by the Protestant churches in the north of Germany, were visited in the afternoon. The visit to the village of Gentha in the rural area, whose inhabitants are felt particularly connected to Denmark since the meeting last year, was again the highlight. After the devotion in the church, there was a gathering together in the house of the fire department with snacks, drinks and music. For the convent community and the theological training of pastors, these days were profitable in every respect.

Theme: “Johnnes Bugenhagen – the Reformer of Denmark”

Together with Bishop Marianne Christiansen and the pastor of the cathedral, Christa Hansen, 10 pastors who work in the Haderslev diocese came for their annual conference in the Luther city. Johannes Bugenhagen, the Reformer of Denmark, was of particular interest. Prof. Dr. Gummelt from Greifswald presented a very interesting lecture on "Bugenhagen in Denmark". Furthermore, the Director of the Office of VELKD (Communion of Lutheran Churches in Germany) in Hannover, Dr. Hauschildt, spoke about Luther's “two-kingdoms doctrine”, and the tutor of studies, Pastor Zirkler, spoke on the Church in the GDR and the ecclesial situation in central Germany today. One highlight was a visit to the congregation in Gentha (25 km from Wittenberg). The Danish guests were very warmly welcomed, and after the devotion in the church, they took part to the so called “Dorffest” (a party for the whole village). For the conference fellowship and the theological training of pastors, these days were so successful that more seminars have been booked for the coming years.
